The weather station is situated in a rural garden site in the village of Boughton under Blean. The location is bordered on the north by the Boughton Golf Course, and on the other sides by (mostly arable) farm land. Due south is a small group of about a dozen houses. Canterbury lies 4 miles due east and the market Town of Faversham lies 3 miles north west.

The landscape is a shallow valley. To the north, beyond higher ground, the ground slopes down to the Swale and the North Kent Coast. To the south the land trends generally upwards rising to the crest of the North Downs.

The soil is clay and sand overlaying chalk.
